For protein and nucleic acid research

  • ALIGN:
  • Global Alignment of Two Sequences (DNA or protein). LALIGN: Calculates the N-Best Local Alignments Between Two Sequences (DNA or protein).

  • BLAST:
  • Sequence Similarity Search for comparison at the nucleic acid sequence or at the protein sequence level (BLAST at NCBI).

  • Brookhaven PDB:
  • An archive of experimentally determined three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules. Contains atomic coordinates of 3D structures. Form for PDB Query ("Molecules R US").

  • MBCR:
  • Molecular Biology Computional Resource.

  • Multiple Sequence Alignments:
  • at Baylor College of Medicine. Example of sequence input.

  • Pedro's BioMolecular Research Tools:
  • Lists several databases for protein and nucleic acid research, all with links.

  • The Principles of Protein Structure
  • is an Internet Course about Protein Structure organised by Birkbeck College, University of London.

  • PROSITE:
  • is a method of determining what is the function of uncharacterized proteins translated from genomic or cDNA sequences. It consists of a database of biologically significant sites, patterns and profiles that help to reliably identify to which known family of protein (if any) a new sequence belongs. This form allows to scan a protein sequence (either from SWISS-PROT or provided by the user) for the occurrence of patterns stored in the prosite database.

  • ProtScale:
  • ProtScale allows you to compute and represent the profile produced by any amino acid scale on a selected protein (SwissProt).

  • Swiss-Model:
  • is an Automated Protein Modelling Server running at the Geneva Biomedical Research Institute. The purpose of this server is to make Protein Modelling accessible to all biochemists and molecular biologists World Wide.

  • Swiss-Prot:
  • A protein sequence database giving information about function and 3D structure (if available) of the protein. Direct access to SWISS-PROT by description or identification/ by accession number/ by author/ by citation/ by full text search.
